President's Welcome

Janvi Joshi
President 2020-21
Dear OxWIF Members,
Welcome to the new year! After months of setting up the committee, organising the events and meeting our sponsors – I am pleased to introduce you to the all-new Oxford Women in Finance Society (OxWIF).
Our aim at OxWIF is not only to equip our members with the essential knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career in finance, but also to build a platform where support is offered to a network of ambitious aspiring financiers. We believe that the best way to debunk the inaccessible city myth is by providing our members with the tools necessary to improve on financial literacy. In the upcoming term we are launching our ‘Managing Personal Finances’ series, with our first event ‘Investing as a Student’ with Maya Prentis - founder of Fempire Finance and consultant at Capgemini Invent.
As a fresher I found the internship application process extremely intimidating. Knowing that I am not alone, we have developed various networking sessions and panel discussions to hopefully breakdown barriers and dispel any reservations you might have on entering into a career in finance. Whilst unfortunately we cannot organise in-person networking events for now, I encourage everyone to join our ‘Oxford Women in Finance Network’ group on Facebook and LinkedIn to connect with like-minded undergraduates and graduates at the University.
This term is the beginning of what I hope to be a long and successful journey for OxWIF. It has been incredible to see our vision for the society come to life; all of which couldn’t have been possible without the work of our committee members. If you have any ideas, questions, or comments on OxWIF and finance please feel free to reach out to any one of us. Even if just for a general chat around life in Oxford, we are always happy to share a cup of virtual – for the time being – coffee.
I hope to see many of you throughout term.
